Today in our first day back from a very brief break, we talked about motherboards, processors, RAM and BIOS and how they relate to physical servers.  Most of this information is a carry-over from the A+ class, but with a server-oriented twist.

Troubleshooting Apps – 4/6/2009

Welcome back to the first day of Spring quarter.  The class of four was whittled down to two, one of whom was absent.  So, basically it was just me and Ethan.

We covered the first two chapters, which were basically soft-skill chapters.  We learned about Tier 1 help desk positions.  Tier 1 positions are the first line of people that customers talk to when they have issues.  This can be dangerous since the people that these frustrated people talk to are often non-people friendly IT geeks.  If these geeks are bad geeks, the end user can be come even more frustrated.

To illistrate, we watched a video of Jimmy Fallon’s “Nick Burns: Your Company’s Computer Guy”.  These Nick Burks skits were hilarious because they nailed the stereotype of the “mean nerd”.  Please don’t become a mean nerd.

Homework:

  • No homework next week.
  • Be ready for a quiz on Chapters 1 and 2
