Tonight you guys presented your presentations which, I have to say, were fantastic — all of you really did a great job with them.  Hopefully you had fun putting them together and maybe hopefully learned a little something along the way.  Afterwords, those who needed to took their finals and we called it a night.

Have great Christmas breaks and I’ll see you guys around next quarter.

Network+ 12/15/2008 (Night)

If you’re reading this you’re probably aware that classes were cancelled tonight due to impending ice.  It may seem silly since, as I type this at 8:10 p.m., there is no ice on the ground, but when the decision was made, ice/snow was moving our way much more rapidly.  Instead of sending a bunch of people home after classes to glide on 2″ of ice, we decided to take the safe route and just keep everyone home tonight.

So, what does that mean for us?

Unfortunately, it means we’ll have to make some adjustments to our schedule.  Next week, I’ll need ALL of you (not just those who need to take the final) to come to class and give your presentations.  Afterwards, I’ll let you know whether you’ll need to take the final.  I wish I could tell you sooner, but its just impossible to know without the 200 presentation points figured into your grades.  Also, I will NOT be lecturing over chapter 10 for you guys, so it’s especially important that you read that chapter and understand it.  Luckily, it’s not a chapter with a lot of technical concepts.  Make sure you know the 8 step Troubleshooting model.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.  Thanks. and see you next week!

Homework:

  • Read Chapter 10
  • Finish up your presentations
  • Study for the final — even if you don’t think you’ll have to take it (better safe than sorry).

Troubleshooting – 12/15/2008

We completed our last class of “computer shop” today, fixing three computers each infected AntiVirus2009!  Wow, what a day.

Scans and what-not were running so slow, that we simply left the comptuers running overnight.  Hopefully they’ll be finished when I arrive in the morning.

Some of you are taking the final and you know who you are.  If you’re not sure, come  next week and I’ll tell you.  Better safe than sorry.

Network+ 12/15/2008 (Day)

Chapter 10 was on the docket for discussion today, which covered troubleshooting best practices and methods.  The one big important thing to take away from this chapter is the 8-step troubleshooting process.  The CompTIA Network+ exam expects you to have full knowledge of this process, so make sure you don’t sluff it off.

But before we began our discussion, we opened class with an hour’s worth (yes, it took a whole hour, can you believe it?) of presentations.  All in all, most of you did a fantastic job, despite your expectations otherwise.  Some of you reading this may be among the handful of people who did not show up today for presentations.  Please know that I will expect you to do the presentation next week.  This presentation is a HUGE part of your grade and simply sluffing it off will wreak havoc on it.

I also let you know whether or not I’ll need to see you next week for the final.  If you’re not sure, show up next week.

Today we celebrated the last “content” day of class by having our personal sales workshop … which is to say we watched the film Tommy Boy.  It was not all mindless entertainment mind you, we applied the entire movie to the seven steps of personal sales.

I also let you know whether or not I needed to see you for the final exam next week, 12/17.  If you don’t know, come.
