Printing stuff was the first-out-of-the-gate topic we covered today. One thing to definitely remember are the vocabulary words associated with printers — printers are not printers (at least in the sense we know of them) but are, in fact, software components that communicate with print devices — the pieces of hardware that we hook up to computers to get paper.
We then talked about NTFS and Network Share permissions. Remember, that when comparing Network Share and NTFS permissions, the most restrictive applies; for example, if I’m allowed to Modify a document with NTFS, but I’m Denied the Change permission with the network share, I won’t be allowed to alter the document — even though I’ve been allowed to with the NTFS permissions. Microsoft likes to test heavily on this concept, so make sure you have a good understanding of it.
Another concept MS likes to test over is what happens with file permissions when you move or copy it to various places. The best thing to remember is that the only time a file retains its permissions is when you move it within the same NTFS volume. Anything else, and it inherits the permissions of the destination folder (unless it’s FAT32, and then it doesn’t inherit anything).
Homework:
- Chapter Six: Review Questions
- Chapter Seven: Review Questions; Scenario 7-1
- Chapter Eight: Scenario 8-2
EDIT: Thanks to Nathan F., who caught my mistake! Chapter 8 should be Scenario 8-2 and NOT the Review Questions.
